2ND ANNUAL HALIFAX DYKE AND TRANS MARCH
FRIDAY JULY 27, 6PM IN FRONT OF THE SPRING GARDEN LIBRARY
DANCING! GLITTER! FACE PAINT! SPOKEN WORD! ROUSING SPEECHES!
This is a march by and for queer women and trans people* that seeks to not only celebrate our identities, but to challenge continued oppressions, particularly gendered oppression**, experienced within our diverse communities.
We are an alternative to the Pride Parade. We offer a political space
for people within queer communities who are marginalized by corporate Pride and by the commercialization of “gay identity.” We seek to create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive space, therefore we choose to operate independently of the police.
This march is open to our allies of all identities and orientations.
An accessible bus will be part of the march for people who would like to use it.
* “Queer women and trans people” can include dyke, lesbian, gay,
bisexual, queer, questioning, pansexual, omnisexual, asexual, transsexual, transgender, bigender, genderqueer, and Two Spirit people
** “Gendered oppression” refers to patriarchal social constructs and the gender binary

Some of my favourite allies at this past summer’s Dyke and Trans March in Halifax. Also one of my favourite banners, which I helped to paint.
Just found this amazing photo of my friend’s button from the Halifax Dyke and Trans march. She calls herself a queer posi straight gal.
